current announcments

Friday, May 23 - The School Board voted to reduce the 2007-08 year by 2 days, making Friday, June 13, the last day of school for most FCPS students. Because seniors graduate on June 13, the last day for underclassmen will be June 12.
Monday, May 19 - Anyone still looking for a high school prep/conditioning program? The Potomac Marlins are running a program at Cub Run starting in September for anyone interested. Steve Ercolano - who coaches alongside us during our practices - will be coaching the practices & he asked if any CVHS swimmers would be interested in coming out. Please drop Coach Bigus or Coach Steve an e-mail if you have any questions.
Thursday, May 15 - The findings of a landmark study examining the link between exercise & breast cancer was released yesterday. In short, researchers found that girls who were physically active at a young age had a 23% lower risk of breast cancer before menopause. The subject sample was close to 65,000 women, making it "the largest & most detailed analysis to date" according to this summary of the findings. The full research article is not in print just yet, but if you're interested, let Coach Bigus know & he'll get you a copy as soon as he gets his.
2007-08 All-Met Awards - Congratulations to Natalie Leake for earning All-Met honorable mention for girls' swimming. She was the only CVHS athlete to be honored in any sport for the winter season. Natalie earned this honor due to her performance in the 100 breaststroke and 50 freestyle - finishing in the top 8 in both events at Districts, Regions, & States. We're sure it didn't hurt that Sana Alloo, Taylor Avery, & Susie Lesniewski all joined her for an All-American time in the 200 medley relay. We're still waiting for final confirmation on the girls' All-American honors. Click here to see how they're doing.
Friday, May 10 - 2008-09 Sports Physicals - Will be conducted on June 10 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Dr. Filak's office. The cost is $40 if you make an appointment in advance or $50 if you pay at the door. For more info or to register, please visit the FCPS web announcment or contact our athletic trainer, Eric Castor, at 703-802-5465 or via e-mail.
